Shalom is pleased to welcome Pastor David Fleener as their Pastor. Pastor Fleener is a 2009 graduate of the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago (LSTC) where he earned his Master of Divinity degree. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in music (voice) and religion from Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Pastor Fleener has provided musical leadership during worship services, including singing the liturgy, or helping the congregation learn a new hymn. He is experienced with both traditional and contemporary styles of worship, and has a high level of competency in preaching. Visiting the sick and home-bound is one of the cornerstones of Pastor Fleener’s ministry and he prides himself on the quality and consistency of care that he and his team of lay people provide. Pastor Fleener has a passion for adult education, and frequently designs his own curriculum. He also enjoys teaching children, and has been active in Sunday School and Vacation Bible School activities. Our Shalom family extends a warm welcome to Pastor Fleener, his wife, Sarah, and new baby daughter, Abigail. Ruth Blom has been welcomed to Shalom's Ministry Team as Deacon for Music and Adult Ministry. She has served the ELCA in several congregations and several roles throughout the past 26 years. Ruth grew up in Cloquet, MN where her dad served as pastor to Our Savior’s Lutheran. She graduated from Golden Valley Lutheran College and Bemidji State University before teaching music in Staples, MN. She has a graduate degree in Music Therapy and worked at Valley Memorial Homes in Grand Forks, ND before being called into full-time ministry.She has served as youth director, family ministry director, education director, interim pastor, and music director in 5 congregations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.

Amber Whipkey - Director of Children and Youth Ministries and Office Administrator
Amber Whipkey was born and raised right here in Alexandria, MN. After high school, she attended Dakota State University and graduated with a degree in Education. After school she began working at Daktronics where she was a Software Trainer. She is married to her husband, Jim and has three children. In her spare time, Amber enjoys coaching, watching, and playing basketball, attending family events, fishing, and camping.
