We believe that God is calling us to invite people into a deeper relationship with Christ, that all may discover true peace and be prepared to follow Him in compassionate service.

Carol Hedlund - Office Administrator
Carol is an Alexandria native currently living on the farm land she grew up on. Carol attended St. Cloud State College earning a BS degree in Physical Education and Biology. Her varied vocations have included 13 years in District 206 as a teacher, aide and substitute teacher, three and a half years as the Recreation Program Coordinator at Knute Nelson Memorial Home and 15 years in Veterinary Medicine. Carol and her husband, Bruce Wollin, became members of Shalom in 2001. Shalom is pleased to welcome Pastor Dennis Preston as their Interim Pastor. Pastor Preston is no stranger to Shalom, as he was the pastoral leader for Shalom's Natural Church Development process, which identified our church's strengths and areas for improvement.
Pastor Preston has served as a Lutheran pastor for the past 34 years. He enjoys almost all aspects of pastoral ministry, especially pastoral care, leading worship, and teaching. He hopes, as pastor, that he can help others to be drawn deeper into the realm of God's unconditional steadfast love and to find joy in discovering their own personal gifts for ministering God's love to others through words and actions.
Pastor Preston thanks Shalom for their invitation to serve as interim pastor at Shalom! Paige Knorek is honored to be approaching 2 years as Shalom’s part time Worship Coordinator and Director of Children's Music. Prior to her work at Shalom, Paige spent 3 years as a full time middle school English teacher. She has a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Communication Arts and Literature (this means she's licensed to teach grades K-8), and was actively involved in choral singing, classical voice training, and worship band during her 4 years at Concordia College, Moorhead. Her love of music ministry was further developed at Mount Carmel where she worked as a camp counselor and worship team member for 6 summers (this is also where she met Tim for the first time). Now Paige is very grateful to bring her passion for worship and music to Shalom and share it with all of you! When not working at Shalom, you can usually find Paige on stage at the Andria Theatre or doing online tutoring, teaching English to children in China! It is also worth noting that Paige adores cats and chocolate. Tim Knorek was born in Prague, Czech Republic to a Christian family. This is extremely rare, as Czech Republic is one of the most atheist countries in the world, and Tim was the only Christian in his elementary school class. Growing up, Tim was deeply impacted by the youth group ministry at his home church, which he later helped to develop and lead. Tim studied at Charles University in Prague pursuing a Chemistry Education degree, and during that time he also spent 4 summers in Minnesota volunteering at Mount Carmel Bible Camp. This experience influenced his decision to pursue youth ministry as a vocation, which brings him to Shalom as Director of Children and Youth Ministries! In his free time, Tim enjoys jamming on his guitar as well as playing sports, especially volleyball and competitive table tennis -- he will never turn down a friendly challenge to play a match at the local table tennis club in Alexandria! Ruth Blom has been welcomed to Shalom's Ministry Team as Deacon for Music and Adult Ministry. She has served the ELCA in several congregations and several roles throughout the past 26 years. Ruth grew up in Cloquet, MN where her dad served as pastor to Our Savior’s Lutheran. She graduated from Golden Valley Lutheran College and Bemidji State University before teaching music in Staples, MN. She has a graduate degree in Music Therapy and worked at Valley Memorial Homes in Grand Forks, ND before being called into full-time ministry. She has served as youth director, family ministry director, education director, interim pastor, and music director in 5 congregations in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
