We believe that God is calling us to invite people into a deeper relationship with Christ, that all may discover true peace and be prepared to follow Him in compassionate service.

Meet Our Staff
Shalom is thrilled to announce the addition of "Pastor Phil-in-the Gap", shown here sporting his contagious smile with his wife, Sue.
Welcome to our Shalom family!
Shalom warmly welcomes Pastor Phil-in-the-Gap as Shalom's Bridge Pastor!  In his 37 years of ordained ministry, Pastor Phil Blom has served a rural four-point Lutheran/Presbyterian parish; pastor developer; solo and senior at medium and large churches; and interim ministries. Phil’s service also includes 28 years as a military chaplain in the USAF Reserves; teaching Core Values for Leadership at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

Phil has earned the nickname: “Disaster Pastor.”  Personally enduring the floods of ’97 in Grand Forks; after 9/11 called to serve as the Crisis Action Team Chaplain at the Pentagon, Washington DC; after Hurricane Katrina serving the Gulf Coast recovery effort; followed by other disasters:i.e. Duluth Flood 2012; tornado, New London WI 2013, Colorado flood 2013, tornado, Washington IL, 2013, and more. Phil’s hope is to bring “Good News in the midst of Bad News in the News.”

The ELCA Healthy Leaders Initiative called Phil teaching the InterLutheran Wholeness Wheel. His motivation and inspiration came from 3 John 2: “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and you may have good health just as it is well with your soul.”

Instead of being retired (which means “tired twice”) Phil prefers to say “ReInspired!" (Inspired for what comes next). Consults with congregations and synods for renewal, vision and mission development.

What comes next always includes 43 year marriage partner, Sue, and our two grandchildren (their parents too) living in Decorah  IA.

Paige Knorek is ecstatic about joining the Shalom Lutheran family as the Worship Coordinator and Director of Children's Music. For the past three years, Paige has been a full time English Language Arts middle school teacher. With a degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Communication Arts/Literature, Paige loves reading and theater arts. Paige was actively involved in choral singing, classical voice training, and worship band during her 4 years at Concordia College, Moorhead. Her love of music ministry was further developed at Mount Carmel Family Camp where she worked as a camp counselor and worship team member for 6 summers. Now Paige is excited to bring her passion for worship and music to Shalom and share it with all of you! It is also worth noting that Paige adores cats and chocolate.
Tim Knorek is Shalom's Director of Children and Youth Ministries. As a Christian born in an overwhelmingly atheistic country, Tim is passionate about encouraging young people to follow Jesus. Tim's walk with Christ was deeply impacted by the youth group ministry at his home church in Czech Republic. As he entered college, Tim was involved in rebuilding the youth ministry program for the church. Tim studied at Charles University in Prague pursuing a Chemistry Education degree. During summers 2011-2014 Tim came to Minnesota and served as volunteer staff at Mount Carmel Ministries. This experience influenced his decision to pursue youth ministry as a calling, which brings him to Shalom! In his free time, Tim enjoys jamming on his guitar and playing sports, especially volleyball and ping pong.
